County Car Rentals

WHO ARE WE?
County Car Rentals is Ireland’s largest Independent Car Rental Company.  County is Family owed and managed and have been in business since 1952.   County keeps its rates low by running an efficient operation and not having an Expensive Franchise Name or Major Advertising.   County has built its business over the years simply by giving Good Value and Good Service.

WHY RENT FROM COUNTY?
We never lose track of how important our customers are.   County has to work even harder because it is competing with major Multinational Car Rental Companies who have huge promotions budgets.    County has a network of Repeat Customers and Excellent Representatives World Wide, who have been working with County for many years and who understand County’s commitment to Service and Value.   In Ireland, all County Staff from Family Members to Administrative Staff are involved in serving our customers.

COUNTY’S FLEET
County offers a Large Range of late Model and Current Year Vehicles.    Some special equipment and automatic vehicles may not be current year as is standard in the Irish Car Rental Industry.
All vehicles have power steering and radio and CD player, and Anti Theft ignition systems.   Some vehicles are equipped with power windows and central locking, regretfully these options cannot be requested.     Irish drivers mostly drive standard shift vehicles, and these are more popular and less expensive to rent.   Automatics are available in some vehicle sizes. The County Fleet is listed in Section “COUNTY FLEET”.  Vehicles can be booked by Group, you cannot book a specific model within a Group.

DRIVER QUALIFICATION
MAXIMUM RENTAL LENGTH.

Irish Tax Laws restrict rental days to a maximum of 34 days at standard Car Rental Tax Rates. Rentals longer than this are subject to a higher tax rate.

DRIVING LICENCE.
Renters and Extra Driver must produce their own driving license issued in their country of residence, held for a minimum of 5 years.

Renters with United Kingdom or other two part license must have all parts of their current license at time of rental.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of five years accident free driving on a Full License and own Insurance immediately prior to rental.

DRIVER’S AGE.
County does not discriminate on the basis of age. We discriminate on a renter’s ability to drive at any age.

Renters under 25 and over 73 have a statistically higher risk of accidents and will be accepted provided they have a current driving license issued in a country where driving is on the left side.

Renters under 25 and over 73 must produce a note from their insurance company showing that they have been driving accident free for the past five years. Drivers over 73 must also produce a doctor’s note confirming that they are fit to drive.

Renters outside 25 to 73 who have a driving licence issued in a country where driving is not on the left have a statistically higher risk of accidents in Ireland and will be accepted subject to a driving ability assessment test on commencement. Any drivers in this category should have alternative transport arrangements made in advance should they be unsuccessful in the driving ability assessment test.

EXTRA DRIVER.
Extra Drivers are subject to the same conditions as Renters.

One Extra Driver per rental is permitted at a charge of €7.00 per day which applies for the entire rental period.

Rentals under 7 days in length may only have an Extra Driver where both drivers have licenses issued in a country where driving is on the left hand side of the road.

DRIVING ABILITY ASSESSMENT.
Drivers of any age may be subject to a pre rental driving ability assessment.

DRIVING CONVICTIONS.
Renters who have been convicted of a major driving offence in the past five years will not be accepted.

SELECTING A COUNTY VEHICLE

Seating:
All County’s cars have seats for five people. The smaller Cars will not be comfortable for more than two people; we have listed the groups with suggested comfortable seating.

If you wish to carry more than five people then you should consider a Group L People Carrier. People Carriers will take up to five adults and two children for a total of seven. Be careful in choosing this group with a seven seat configuration, as rear leg space will be restricted and luggage space will fit only one small case! This Group can have the two rear seats folded down and will take five people in great comfort with five cases.

For maximum seating, Group K Minibus will accommodate eight adults with eight cases. Minibuses are great for Golfers!

Luggage:
When touring you will have luggage with you. It is essential to book a vehicle that will accommodate your luggage in the boot. (Case size refers to average size cases) Ireland is no different from any Country, if luggage is visible; it is most likely to be stolen from an unattended vehicle. Have your luggage in the boot before starting your journey, do not wait to place it in the boot when you stop, even at remote viewing areas.

Vehicle Size:
Larger vehicles are more comfortable. Most vehicles have high performance four cylinder engines, which give good performance and good fuel consumption. Distances in Ireland are not great. Most scenic roads are narrow, and winding, and smaller cars have an advantage.

Fuel Use:
Although Fuel is sold in Litres in Ireland, fuel consumption figures are still calculated in miles per gallon M.P.G.! (It’s an Irish Thing!) Fuel consumption figures are for average driving and may vary with different drivers.

Doors:
All doors are counted. Three and Five doors include the rear hatch back door.
Vehicle model types are typical for each group.

Vehicle Group Guarantee:
A specific car make or model is never guaranteed, only a vehicle within a particular group. In the event of the depot not having a vehicle within your pre-booked group, you will be offered a car from the next higher County group at no extra cost. County may change typical vehicles in a Group as New Models and Model Upgrades occur.

Voluntary Upgrade
If, on arriving at the County depot, you decide to upgrade to a higher group to that which you have pre-booked and pre-paid, you must pay an extra charge for the “voluntary upgrade”. The extra cost is calculated from the difference between the prevailing local rate of the two groups and is payable directly to County.

DRIVING A COUNTY CAR IN IRELAND
Driving is on the left.
Ireland is well served with a network of motorways and well-paved secondary roads. Ireland is approximately 550 kilometres North to South and 300 kilometres East to West. Driving distances in Ireland are not great. Allow plenty of time for your journeys, scenic roads are winding and there is a lot to stop and see along the way. Traffic in large towns can be congested as main roads generally go through them, so allow plenty of time especially if returning to Dublin Airport.

Road Signs and Fuel
Roads signs in Ireland will be familiar, as Ireland, like most countries, use similar signs.

Petrol Stations are numerous with most opening 7 AM to 11 PM and many have 24-hour operations. Most Petrol Stations have Convenience Stores, which stock snack food and drink items.

Safe Driving
At commencement of rental, County provides each renter with a process to greatly reduce their risk of road accident. In the past eight years since County introduced this process, County’s accident rate has reduced to the lowest ever level ever recorded by the major Car Rental Insurer. This process is particularly suited to those who are not used to driving on the left and is presented in a universal language code.
